1/ As the guy who co-created the character of She-Ra and her universe alongside Larry DiTillio (though Mattel named her), a few thoughts. (Note: I am in no way connected with the current show, so I'm speaking both as an outsider to what is and an insider to what was intended).https://twitter.com/kawaiiberpunk/status/1019210255992049664 …

For the record, Mira Furlan was perfect for Delen, and Claudia Christian really brought out Ivanova. I still to this day can’t figure out who I rate higher, Delen or G’Kar (Rest in Peace Andreas Katsulas) but the casting and the writing for the characters was spot on imho.

And as a woman, I have always deeply appreciated that. Not only did they come across as women I recognise, admire and feel some affinity for, but they are also characters I was thrilled to introduce to my daughter and son.

I have always loved that Ivanova's Earthforce uniform was just like any other Earthforce uniform: functional, elegant, not gendered.

The key is, as you say, create a decent-sized cohort of woman which offers a range of response. One of my favourite scenes in Babylon 5 is when Delenn, Ivanova and Lyta are on deck, after Sheridan, giving it rice, as my late father in law would say. Such power!

One thing that disturbed me about He-Man & She-Ra is that in their crossover story, the theme tune has some matrimonial undertones in the lyrics, even though they are siblings.

Maybe her glasses were too sharp for them.

A huge preportion of my favourite women characters right there in that tweet! You write interesting, intelligent and believable women. Which is so much more than just another "strong female character".
