Voter education moment: if you request an absentee ballot and decide not to vote it (or never receive it!) you must sign an absentee ballot affidavit to cancel that request/ensure that you... don’t double vote. It’s a shame the Congresswoman-elect doesn’t understand the voting system that put her into office. Nobody is saying he cast a mail ballot and then had it voided to vote in person. I'll be the first to admit I have a very hard time following exactly how our government works, and what all the voting protocols are. But... shouldn't people we elect to represent us know these things? And if they don't, shouldn't they not be allowed to spread such falsehoods?
*in Georgia This is correct in Georgia, but the rules vary quite a bit state to state! (I just don’t want any non-Georgia voters to worry they messed up if their state doesn’t require an absentee ballot be cancelled to vote in person)
Not only do you have to sign an affidavit, but anyone with an outstanding absentee ballot got flagged as such when they checked into their polling place, notifying the poll worker to request formal cancellation of the absentee ballot within the voter registration system.
Is that image what it looks like for anyone who cancels a requested absentee? Or are there variations?
Here’s mine. Request absentee, used a sharpie, spoiled it. Second absentee didn’t shown up, so I went and signed an affidavit at early voting, voted. Second absentee cancelled. One vote. This isn’t hard.pic.twitter.com/IU71invY2O
I voted early and not absentee but in the system it looks like it was an absentee ballot. Here’s a pic from Twitter on the day I voted 10/19 along with my MVP page showing I requested and submitted an absentee ballot and it was accepted that day.pic.twitter.com/JITHYyUved
