Stop LAPD Spying Coalition’s Tweets

So the thinks a motion to disarm LAPD officers inside city council chambers is “irresponsible” A reminder that senior lead officer Haissam Sabra, who murdered a Mark Miles in 2012, is one of the pigs stationed inside those very chambers

L.A. City Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez called this week for the city’s policy analysts to determine whether the council has the power to require that every police officer assigned to council meetings be unarmed latimes.com/california/sto

"Hamid Khan, a coordinator with , said the foundation over the years has helped the department build a dystopian network of surveillance capabilities by paying for equipment purchases that would have raised more questions had they been publicly funded."

The foundation’s donors are rarely disclosed publicly, although they have an effect on how the LAPD provides for public safety, with a majority dictating how the department can spend the money they give. latimes.com/california/sto

This is all by design! Let's not get caught up in euphemisms of "under-training" or "misuse." Training is about legal liabilities and more money for . They never miss their mark when it comes to Black, brown, poor, and unhoused communities. Legislations are political cover

Good article. What doesn’t get talked about enough (and something that’s been hammered into my brain by @stoplapdspying) is that these laws and policies governing use (like AB48) *expand* police violence, giving them cover to further justify violence by checking the right boxes. twitter.com/KnockDotLA/sta…

The law restricts the LAPD’s use of force, but potentially under-trained officers wielding “less-lethal” weapons against crowds can cause drastic harm. Read more from @ACatWithNews: knock-la.com/lapd-use-of-fo

The majority of the improvement are for neighborhoods adjacent to Skid Row. The video was filmed in the fashion district. This application continues the #dirtydivide. Where new downtown gets and old downtown fights for resources.

. is pandering and appropriating in the worse way. The way he’s attempting to highjack Black folks work would make Elvis proud. LACAN has been putting in work since 2017 to get bike lanes and infrastructure in Skid Row cangress.org/with-council-v, and we secured them.

Glad the LA Times finally wrote an article about LAPD’s robot dog, and talked to at least among other academic experts on policing, but it sure woulda been a hell of a thing to write an article like, *before* the LAPD acquired the $300k robot surveillance dog?
Quote Tweet
The LAPD plans to acquire a canine-like robot. Authorities say the technology will help, but critics worry the technology will mostly be used in poor areas. latimes.com/california/sto

Speaks to just how fucking gross he is that he’s willing to jeopardize resources for unhoused folks (many of whom are in his district) to try and salvage his political career.

Mayor Bass’ homelessness state of emergency declaration on homelessness is time-limited. It must be taken up today, and Council has no mechanism through which it can remove de León. That’s why de León is digging his heels in here.

"Letting KDL have it at council meetings is not just the 1st Amendment at its finest — it’s a civic duty." KDL hasn't attended a minute of City Council public comment in over two months. What the fuck is talking about?

For the past year, Councilmember Kevin De León and his most ardent critics have played a game of Spy vs. Spy against each other — with De León winning again and again, writes @GustavoArellano. latimes.com/california/sto

This was a vote for $2.5 MILLION to hire more officers through a DOJ Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant. Read how LAPD specifically uses this grant to deploy troops from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars in Black neighborhoods: automatingbanishment.org/section/6-refo
