C'mon , please stop telling us climate change really matters on the one hand, then encouraging aviation dependent travel on the other. Be consistent. This is a after all...: Where to go on holiday in 2019 – the hotlist

This is indeed good news. I have two hopes regarding such policy: 1) That it be based on annual distance, not solely frequency (it does account for frequency). 2) No "free ride". Use a token tax for first flight even if short a distance, so a special "right" isn't created.

Interesting analysis of Swedish aviation taxation - popularity can be increased if revenues raised are ringfenced to mitigate emissions from the sector

People tell we shouldn't focus just on personal flying emissions, not noticing that he devotes his life's work to science communication. They tell she would have bigger impact as a climate activist if she flew, not noticing her unsurpassed impact.

If you missed it over the Christmas break - this is an important read. Doesn't dismiss electric planes, but warns they wont be a game changer, especially for long-haul which is responsible for the vast majority of emissions.

So, to make it public (hold me to account), my New Year's Resolution is to not fly in 2019. The only loophole (should I even allow this?) is if my partner has to return to South America & I emigrate to stay with him. I don't want to be a preachy dick about this but....

Yes, as people switch from jet-setting lifestyle to , the reduction in climate impact comes from two sources: (1) lower emissions per mile (in almost but not quite all cases) and (2) fewer miles. The effect is multiplicative and powerful.

In the FT today, warning that airlines aren't being nearly upfront enough about the already arriving cost of climate change. Mitigation, adaptation, economic disruption = €$£¥!

You have transformed the entire climate conversation, and there is no going back. 0 emissions in 10 years, drawdown, and a job guarantee. This is the standard every politician will be held to. You set the bar. Thank you.

Greta could not be who she is - and such a powerful climate advocate - if she did not walk the talk. It simply would not be possible. Climate advocates, take note.

Scott Cohen in his paper 'Binge Flying' says air-travel vacation is a broad socio-cultural addiction, a habit deeply embedded in Western society. Graham Miller of the Univ of Surrey identifies a sense of entitlement with regard to holiday travel.

Good for you Greta. I gave up flying in 2006, regularly give presentations by Skype and travel everywhere by train. Thank you for walking your talk. I have noticed how it impacts other people's decisions too .

I stopped flying. It’s the least I can do for Greta’s generation.

Was great to catch up with Parke and lots of others sharing the message about and . People joined from many (ten?) different countries and no-one needed a passport or luggage. Look forward to doing it again next year!

The most effective individual steps to tackle climate change aren't being discussed. Flying is a biggie! 😮
