I feel like the doom lore got retconned between doom 2016 and doom eternal and not in a good way

1. Samuel Hayden was formerly a human turned cyborg with an interesting moral delimma of using hell energy to support humanity, but then got turned into an uninteresting member of the maykr race with indecernable motives.
2. The betrayer was shaping up to be a mysterious lore thread connecting the dynamics of the faction of "slayers" (doom guy's allies) w/ whoever the dark lords of hell were. He was reduced to a throwaway boss character that did little in the way of world-building or explaination

From the moment I started the campaign, I felt like something was missing. My guess is a pre-sequel game that covers time between 2016 and eternal. Might even be a DLC for eternal if we're lucky

What was interesting about both cases was they built on a theme of man struggling with the commission of evil in the pursuit of his goals. Both Hayden & the Betrayer were characters wrestling w/ Faustian bargains. It felt as if they could be truer protagonists than doom guy

honestly so fucking true it hurts. I don’t like what they did with just turning sam into the seraphim for no apparent reason.
