I feel like the doom lore got retconned between doom 2016 and doom eternal and not in a good way

Methinks: Doomguy is suddenly invested in lore and happenings around him, whereas in 2016, most any exposition dump, he dumped, outright.

I just ignore it. Its not the best lore anyways. In the immortal words of John Carmack: "Story in a game is like a story in a porn movie. It's expected to be there, but it's not that important."
