Nice! To be clear - in the second case does it create v.len() number of threads or is there some sort of thread pool?

It just creates that many threads, there is no pool.

Very cool! I was peeking at the source; could you help me understand why you move the FnOnce into an FnMut before spawning the threads?

Hmm, good point. I forget - probably something about the interaction of Box and FnOnce. I think this is an old habit from the era before unsized locals. This may work without the conversion to FnMut.
