She was a great friend to reporters seeking records in the pre-internet era. For decades after I left the City Hall beat in the mid-80s, she remembered my name when I contacted her office. A true public servant.

Today I watched a man plead guilty and accept a sentence for felony probation. During the plea, he carried a sleeping toddler on his shoulder, his two other young children sat in the audience. Children aren’t usually allowed in criminal court, but the man didn’t have childcare.

  15. The documents also note that Goines said he paid Mallet and his brother $200 for the drugs. Police never recovered that $200 after the arrest, and expense reports show he paid a CI $200 for info leading to the arrest. Goines never disclosed *to anyone* he paid a CI in the case.
