I have over 40 years HR experience. When I hear statements about "unemployable" graduates I am starting to ask myself - what is wrong with management? How is the problem so bad that it could not be rectified by a good remedial induction? We need research.

Thank you for saying this! I've been asking myself the same thing. Like what does "unemployable" mean. We all learn on the job so why make it so difficult for people to enter the job market? It doesn't make sense to me.

I always question the accuracy of unemployed stats in SA. I believe people in informal economy like taxi drivers and hairstylists in salons are regarded as unemployed.
-
That's an interesting point. I'm actually not sure how the stats are calculated. Anecdotally, it certainly does look like youth unemployment is especially high.

It is burning! But we cover it in the traffic report, and treat protests like the weather.
-
That's exactly what I said to person I was speaking to! I said it is burning in daily protests across the country. But because of Apartheid spatial planning, the protests aren't centralised and don't affect the elite except being notified about them in traffic reports.
