I've been off Twitter for a month. I popped back in today to find it's still a hotbed of anger and misery. The fun has gone. So I'm leaving after 12 years and 178,404 tweets. I'll keep the account so people can DM me but otherwise, consider me deleted. Stay safe my friends :) xx

If you think a government letting people die is better for your mental health than someone tweeting about it that’s on you.

“I can tell you that for every death at a hospital, I deal with 5 at a care home - I’ve been to 4 care homes in 2 days”. The words of a funeral director I spoke to in the north of England. It’s in the public interest for the deaths to be included in the daily briefing.

You can't understand what has happened in England without reading about the people in power believing illness and disability only happen to weak, lazy people.

To anyone who believes the govt is going a good job, I’d really love to know how you balance that with a higher death toll than Italy or Spain when we had them as prior warning? It seems the ability to believe in British Exceptionalism even in the face of facts knows no bounds.

So Cummings/Johnson's lethal "herd immunity" experiment was most certainly not based on any clinical evidence, but is now killing over 1000 people a day in the UK. How long before they are prosecuted ? I ask on behalf of the 10,000 who have so far died , and those who will die

Hit hard and hit early. New Zealand adopted a programme of mass testing and one month lockdown right at the start of the spread. There has only been one fatality. They nipped the virus in the bud. My @BylineTimesSubs article.

I knew that the government would use Johnson getting coronavirus after he basically went around licking bins to get it as some kind of propaganda piece. I feel physically ill watching him praise the same NHS his government has rendered dangerously overstretched.

I am delighted that the prime minister is well enough to leave hospital but his & his government's handling of this crisis remains woeful. The NHS to which he is rightly so grateful has been chronically underfunded, we were too slow to act & 10,000 people are dead.

If you want your press supine, sycophantic and worshipful — you don’t have to look far. But if you want something that isn’t afraid to speak truth to power and to cover , try this instead.
