Sunday in "Hardcore Software" post about the goals of Windows 8 user experience incl. the Start screen. The design included Fitts's Law corners for mouse + gestures. Lots of "no one will ever find those" comments. Today every platform has such gestures. hardcoresoftware.substack.com

There are many things you can say about the product, but buggy compared to Vista (or Windows 7) was definitely not one.

The Windows 8 core was fine, but the UI was annoying for mouse users. Mixing the touch UI and mouse UI may be possible, but Win8 showed that it can go wrong. Sorry, but I often wondered how one dared to publish an UI mix like this. Looked half-way. Rest of work fine 😘

I miss active corners on Windows.
I know i'm not in the majority but active corners made Windows 8 in my opinion the best Windows ever made for mouse usage. Top left for Window switching, top left and down for last few windows, small right down gesture for charms...

The only thing more puzzling is that the clock has been in the lower left lately.

Hot corners have always felt like a weird overloading to me. As screens get bigger probably they become less natural

"Hardcore Software" is great. Will you compare and contrast Apple's very deliberate differentiation on different form factors (i.e. no touch on pc) vs. the "tablet and PC get the same UX" approach that Windows 8 took?
