When I learned that Cornell professor David Henderson had died I bought a copy of the geometry book he wrote with . The book came today and I’ve spent the last few hours enjoying it. What an absolute treasure - can’t wait to use some of these ideas with kids.

This book had as large an impact on my views of mathematics and geometry and teaching than any book I read.

No, but 'estimates' doesn't mean random guessing either. We actually know quite a lot about the temperature of the past. Maths and science provides us with the tools to understand the world better, because common sense and intuition have a habit of letting us down.

And the earliest list of combinatorial calculations is via Sushruta [which has recently been translated to English by the great scholar Dr. M. S. Valiathan] [in the Mahabharata, the story of Nala and Damayanti, has Nala instructing Rituparna in a form of estimation]
