it's insanely obvious that the new decade starts in 2020 if you remember that time began in 1970

I don’t use Google Home because I know they have enough PhDs to figure out how to make money with recordings of me crying.

Useless thought of the day: The sound of one hand clapping is not well defined because clapping only has an obvious interpretation for even numbers of hands, but the sound of zero hands clapping is just the sound of zero pair of hands clapping (i.e., silence)

You’d think a new lisp, after talking about all its pros, would then have a list of cons

This gorgeous thread is an antidote to fear of "uNiVeRsAl InCoMe mEaNs NoOnE wOrKs" People daydream about building something solid, tending it daily and being of gentle continuous use to their neighbors.

When you think about it, every line of code is going to make more work for you at some point in the future, compared to just writing no code. One line of code? Well that's not gonna cut it is it, you're always going to need more. But *no* lines? Now that's a long-term solution.

Thinking a lot lately about virtue as skill. - doing the right thing is a matter of judgment, courage and habit, not just meaning well - moral courage can be cultivated; you're not limited to current supply - it is helpful to have thought about hard issues before facing them

I added 6 new enemy types. Sticking with 1HP is a nice limitation for forcing more interesting enemy differentiation, so at least that's working well. I'm not sure how I'll handle player progression, but I'm considering limiting it to consumable items.

The TL;DR of all of this is that I partially reimplemented a thing and accidentally improved it by not implementing everything that was in the original. It feels like there's some kind of life lesson here.

I'd like to expand it more, but I suspect adding new content indiscriminately will water down what's already working and make the game worse. I'll probably aim for something a bit more traditionally roguelike shaped, but I'd like to keep the quirky pathing tactically relevant.

You can now dodge one rat by moving in any direction, but since the new pathfinding is smarter about not wasting turns on illegal moves, groups of rats tend to clump up and can end up killing you anyways as they try to move around each other to get to your previous location.
