this is in pretty strong contrast to the ancient ideal of the mixed regime, where for example in Rome you had different bodies that were constitutionally connected to different classes - plebian, aristocratic, etc

to appease @soashworth, the thought is something like this: the idea of modern constitutionalism is to embody a principle of equal consent to a political regime, such that any sort of legal recognition of classes or groups is ruled out
