5th Ave in midtown Manhattan and all adjacent streets are closed to cars on no notice in the middle of a weekday for a firefighter funeral but we can't shut one lane on 6th Ave for a proper bike lane to prevent cyclist funerals

what sucks is we have better and more important things to do than become safe streets activists. for fucks' sake, imagine having to become a "pick up the garbage" activist or a pro-fire department activist. do your fucking simple-ass job so we can quit going to meetings.

It’s not a coincidence that all five of these riders are black & brown. That’s how NYPD under operates. It’s disgusting that is simply an excuse for style harassment of New Yorkers of color.

“We have to keep our cities dangerous, ugly, segregated, and polluted to prevent gentrification” is probably my least favorite take on urban issues.

Bike lanes are associated with gentrification because they are artificially scarce. Lots of people want them, so when they are painted, it raises property values. End this by painting them everywhere.

I look forward to questionably imprisoned black men in rural America becoming majority voting blocs in towns that thought it would be clever to profit from prisons.

The Boston Marathon bomber is an especially interesting case, as he and his dead brother may have been set up by the FBI. He should get to speak his mind. Why not?

There are probably 99 violent criminals out on the street for every one behind bars. Why should the lucky, white, or rich ones get the vote while their unluckier, darker skinned and poorer brethren are barred?

I think of Queens Blvd, like 1st & 2nd and 8th & 9th Aves in Manhattan, as spinal columns, supporting what should be a whole skeleton of lanes off to the sides. But in most of NY, we have an exoskeleton instead.

Some of my favorite humans are these teens who rebelliously ride fixies around Manhattan and Queens. They are so free and having so much fun, and it inspires me to keep making the city safer and better.

be very suspicious when people in authority--who have the resources and power to DO something--ask for "engagement" from a community that has already made its demands clear on multiple, multiple occasions through extensive prior engagement.
