Besides the fact that this is verifiably untrue - Sanders did 39 general election events and there's no public record of O'Malley coming close - I would imagine the Clinton campaign placed a rather higher premium on events done by someone who got 13 million votes versus ~8,000

Polls are still tight in Ireland as voters prepare for an historic election. Here's what you need to know about the race:

Obligatory caveat that caucus polls, cross tabs, and exit polls are hard to rely on, and this is all three etc. but a really enormous and fascinating college vs. non-college 18-29s split - 12 pt difference between Bernie and Warren to a 60 pt difference

I had been under the impression that one of the major "things we learned in 2016 and won't repeat in 2020" was giving Trump live coverage of all of his rallies and yet here's Trump, on your tv, in the heart of the 2020 race, just talking and talking and talking

Funny to see people pearl clutching that Trump somehow defiled the national prayer breakfast as if it’s not a tradition that only exists because a president who had a coercive affair with a professional subordinate half his age wanted the political cover of Christofascism

We've been talking a lot about the fuck ups of the Iowa Democratic Party and not enough about CNN picking three shades of blue as its designated colors for three of the top four candidates

The Warren campaign spent several weeks pitching her as the "unity candidate," put "unite the party" on signs, posters, and in commercials, and advertised how much she was so many people's second choice - and she did worse, relative to the top 2, on realignment. Not that strange

This is the first time in history a member of the president’s party has voted for removal. With Manchin’s and Sinema’s votes, it’s also the first time the whole opposition party has voted to remove.

Just an FYI: Mitt Romney is popular and beloved in Utah, where Trump did poorly in 2016. He's filthy rich, will be doted on by DC and media establishment figures no matter what, and not up for re-election until 2024. His decision is a lot of things but it is not "brave"

The Democratic Party's last presidential nominee is constantly trashing its current nomination frontrunner and the Republican Party's last presidential nominee is now voting to remove its current president from office

Now, looking back, I feel a great sadness. 15 hours a week, 52 weeks a year. Times that by decades and decades. Rush Limbaugh discipled generations of people into fear. His voice eclipsed any other book or pastor or teacher. It was constant. It never ended.

TL;DR It's one state etc. but every candidacy - and the Democratic Party as a whole arguably - looks worse coming out of Iowa and the chances of a contested convention went up

The caucuses have same day registry and Sanders has been building an infrastructure there (officially) for a year. Most swing states don't and he'd have five months to build as the nominee. If the turnout surge didn't come there, what evidence is there it would come in a general?

Pick your narrative: Warren: sitting 2 term senator beaten out by a former small town mayor Bernie: premised his candidacy on bringing in new voters, got 1/3 the votes he did 4 yrs ago Buttigieg: no day job, created in a lab for Iowans, his high water mark was ~27% Biden: lol

Maybe it has to do with the fact that they used the app “for the 1st time ever” and tried to create parallel caucus results “for the 1st time ever” by releasing three results “for the 1st time ever” and maybe I’m going to gouge my eyes out “for the 1st first time ever”

In a way, the Iowa caucuses' stubborn attempt to shoehorn a new generation of activists and political consensus into an archaic, outdated system with the defenders of that system that they have little in common with is a perfect encapsulation of the Democratic Party of 2020
