There's an awful lot of magical thinking involved in the idea that NULL is actually going to go away and they'll get to remove it eventually.
'90's: void * ptr = NULL; '00's: void * ptr = 0; '10's: void * ptr = nullptr; Next year we all have to change again.
'20s: void * ptr = std::null::ptr::get();
why does nullptr exist anyway? was there some type system issue?
typedef std::nullptr_t NULL;
The C and C++ macro NULL is dangerously defective because the standard allows two different definitions. Best practice for the last two decades has been to never use the macro NULL. Literal zero was preferred. It’s nice that C++ finally fixed the defect.
