1) The nervous system is incapable of directly measuring the bodies chemical balance and will seek out external stimuli to explain feelings, even assuming stimuli where it doesn't exist.
-
-
-
2) Depression is like an assassin in the night whispering poison into its victims ears. It succeeds by isolating it's victims through lies and manipulation.
-
3) The way to defeat depression is to connect with others to test your thoughts and feelings through external validation. People don't like exposing their inner selves at the best of times.
-
4) When you think maybe your thoughts and feeling are crazy and the assassin is preying on your vulnerability reaching out can be impossible. When you start losing control and acting irrationally, this feeling of being isolated and helpless increases exponentially.
-
5) This is why we have to make an effort to reach out to the people around us, because the people most are risk will not reach out to you. The person who seems most in control may be hanging on by a thread.

Thanks for talking about this
@stephenfry. If we had known what Robbin Williams was going through I think we all would have smashing down his door to tell him we love him and to give him a hug.
-
I don’t know who you are
@JustinBrowsin but you make a lot of sense -
Thanks, K A. I'm just a twitter lurker ;) But I've experienced enough depression to have empathy for what people go through. People I know, and love as well as strangers. The best people I meet always let others know they're not alone.

I love you Stephen, I have agoraphobia and I listen to you reading harry potter and Mythos every single night and its the only thing that helps me sleep. For me, if you had died, the world would be a much grimmer place.
-
Stay strong. Love, me.
-
I have suffered with agoraphobia too. When I’ve had my most anxious times I listened to Harry Potter, when trying to sleep, found audio books the one thing that helped with the anxiety at bedtime. I also have Fawlty Towers on audio I could picture the scenes in my head.

They say suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem, but if one keeps it to oneself, it can feel far from temporary. My 26yo son, newly diagnosed with bipolar, has been inspired by your words. Keep on keeping on Mr Fry, you help so many.

So often its the child we mind and our hearts break...remember to mind yourself because we need to stay strong and healthy too from one mum to another x

Agreed, thank you. Heads-up to

What I find worst is the public perception that you're the selfish one for feeling so distraught and helpless that it's your only option to end the pain, yet you're considered at fault for attempting that. It's horrible to be in that position I hope less people feel that way.
-
Totally agree
Couldn’t have said it better...
