1/n After an arduous but constructive peer review process, we’re excited to share the published version of this work. Lots of added goodies: science.org/doi/10.1126/sc

1/8: Super excited to share our latest pre-print from the lab, where in close collaboration with @kellogg_liz lab we show that through some pore behavior, the CRISPR-Cas13-activated membrane protein CRISPR-Csx28 pulls the plug on bacteriophage infection. biorxiv.org/content/10.110

one of my favorite things in peer review* is when you review a paper that is seriously problematic and then that paper comes out unchanged in a different peer reviewed journal *favorite things showing peer review is broken

One of my favorite parts of being a Pew Scholar is meeting the amazing scientists in the Pew Latin American Fellows program. Check out this short video on how the program has impacted fellows. I agree with Daiana - science is global!

this thread also goes hard

I teach college music theory, but I'm also a new dad. I decided to combine my professional and personal identities and make a thread of music for babies where the adult musicians went way, way harder than they had to. (1/12)

agreed, and github copilot is equally transformative for coding. truly a game-changing advance in programming (esp for scientists) - thanks for the tip. free for students/faculty, too! github.com/features/copil
Quote Tweet
When Google came on the scene in 1998 it was transformational because it was so superior to other ways to search (AltaVista, anyone?). GPT-4 and ChatGPT feel similarly transformational and superior to the 25-year old search box we’re all used to. Exciting to think of the future.

Congrats to , , and the great team! With TEMPOmap, we can snapshot RNA life cycle from birth to death for thousands of genes with single-cell and subcellular resolutions, revealing that RNA kinetics, fast and slow, serves gene functions. nature.com/articles/s4159
Quote Tweet
Thrilled to share the publication of TEMPOmap in its final version! It has been a challenging and rewarding journey for the team. Our new method resolves spatiotemporal transcriptomics at subcellular resolution. Check it out if you are interested! nature.com/articles/s4159

pressure drop was better when toots & the maytals did it, sorry weather
Quote Tweet
Look at that pressure drop at buoy 46042 (18NM West of San Francisco)! This is driving strong winds across the Bay Area. High wind warnings are in place for coastal areas south of the San Francisco peninsula. Inland, wind advisories are in place from Contra Costa county south

New feature on gnomAD! For pairs of rare variants, we predicted the number of individuals in gnomAD with these variants in cis and in trans, split by allele frequency and predicted consequence. We have a blog post to describe this, but watch this space! 👀 Preprint coming soon.
Quote Tweet
The #gnomAD browser now includes variant co-occurrence counts by gene. We hope this will help with interpretation of co-occurring variants in the context of recessive conditions. Read more about this feature on our blog post broad.io/gnomAD_co_occu #ACMGMtg23

respect to Chase and everyone involved in BAYS - connecting universities and local public schools to uplift future scientists, especially for folks who may not have access to research, is so crucial and inspirational

Thrilled to share our recent paper in which we address the fascinating question: Why do mRNAs sub-cellularly localize in radial glia progenitors during embryonic development? Our study was led by super-talent former postdoc

Hoping that a resolution comes quickly and that there’s attention to nonprofit accounts as well as VC and for-profit accounts. SV needs functioning nonprofits along with the startup economy.

I assume this was rejected because we need an RNA emoji before we can have a protein emoji 💅

Why science needs a protein emoji 🍝 🧶 🥩 🫘 Read about the relentless work by @andrewwhite01 and my own minor role that led to the submission and rejection of a protein emoji doi.org/10.1038/d41586
