Wrapping up the Sherman Island tour with a look at this wetland restoration project (~600 acres of wetlands here!) and some ongoing monitoring. Most impressive at all? The structural integrity of this boardwalk!
Learning about the setback levees of Sherman Island and how scientists are overcoming some sampling challenges through innovative technologies. See the 2nd pic for details on this awesome fish sampling platform! Wish I had that back in my days at
Had our lunch break at Big Break Regional Shoreline! A beautiful park that serves as a community and education hub for the Delta. We learned about the wide variety of educational programs that occur at the park.
There’s also a multi-use path that runs alongside one of the parcels at Dutch Slough! During our ~10 minutes hanging out by this bend, I saw 5 or so cyclists and a few runners! There are plans to extend this path around the full parcel to improve this recreational benefit!
Now learning about how this restoration project has provided essential habitat for a variety of wildlife. Wildlife researchers are surveying for birds, bats, amphibians, reptiles, and more!
ISB! First stop is Dutch Slough. We’re learning about ongoing research on the short/long term greenhouse gas fluxes and how this project was designed with adaptive management experiments + education in mind!
