Reflecting on Monterey Park and Half Moon Bayโ€”I wrote about how fighting for safety in Asian American communities means looking beyond policing to empower and bridge Asian Americans in different movements to organize around united political demands for community safety.

Recent massacres have made anti-Asian violence seem more entrenched than ever. But there are concrete steps we can take right now to make our communities safer. bit.ly/3HTib6Q

*Finally*! The publisher of the Dallas Morning News says that the Dallas Times Herald archives will be available soon. So many people swore this would never happen! I hope that mere un-moneyed mortals such as myself can afford to access them....

This is so important. Asian American history cannot be understood w/out understanding Black history & the suppression of one should draw outrage & solidarity from the other. I hope everyone who supports HB287/ SB294 joins in opposing DeSantisโ€™s ban on AP African American Studies.

Asian American education policy is sweeping the nation, which is needed esp after the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes. One case I want to zoom in on is Fla. If Florida passes HB 287 / SB 294, yet suppresses Black history education, it will speak volumes a/b who is preferred. 1/2

My latest. Black journalists knew from the jump that the end game of the CRT panic was to justify legalizing anti-Black efforts. Florida and DeSantis are showing us what was under their *ahem* hoods this entire time.

Kalpana Chawla, alum and first Indian woman in space, was a crewmember on board Space Shuttle Columbia in 1997 and perished tragically during her 2nd space flight #OnThisDay in 2003. We continue to honor her life and legacy today ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ [๐Ÿ“ธ: library.uta.edu/digitalgallery]

A portion of the front page of "The Shorthorn," the campus newspaper for the University of Texas at Arlington, published on February 4, 2003, featuring a large headline reading "Alumna Dies in Shuttle" at the top with a photograph of Kalpana Chawla, NASA Astronaut and UTA alumni, below the headline.

Wow. This piece by @originalspin cuts deep. โ€œIf Mr. Chou, Mr. Tran and Mr. Zhao committed mass shootings, they did so not because they were Asian but as Americans. Mass murder may be the fullest act of assimilation possibleโ€ฆโ€ nytimes.com/2023/01/28/opi

I need so many people to understand this regarding Tyre Nichols. Several of the police officers who murdered Freddie Gray were Black. The entire system of policing is based on white supremacist violence. We see people under the boot of oppression carry its water all the time.

Diversifying the police force doesnโ€™t end racism because racism is inherent to the organization of the institution & its daily operation. Racism is what policing is

I canโ€™t stop thinking about how the authorโ€™s adopted Chinese American daughters felt when they read this headline ๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿ’” There are so many transracial Asian American adoptees hurting in isolation right now.. let alone to have a parent write some BS like this.
