Hi @DerbyChrisW can we make all carriages safe for all passengers rather than restricting where we can go? It's not us, it's them honest...https://twitter.com/politicshome/status/900003377639280640 …

I didn't suggest restricting movements Stella, merely suggested possibility of a choice. But retaining guards on all trains is essential.
-
if a woman sat in mixed carriage and then attacked, would she be culpable? not choice but judgement on us all if can’t be safe everywhere..
-
Now why would Stella want to have a twitter spat with
@DerbyChrisW ... rather than a private chat... ? The plot thickens...

Because policy-making on the hoof is never a good idea, and this is the most egregious example so far this summer? Whatever next?

well said, Stella
-
Do either of you have a practical suggestion?
-
People are apparently not reporting it which makes no sense to me. CCTV needs to be in place and working.
-
CCTV working in place & working, BTP Cops & PCSOs on trains visible, get BTP intel systems geo locate & target, upskill all train staff 1/2
-
Yes, but in general this is an issue of education. Women targeted daily with both verbal & physical transgressions, public education needed.
-
Stop normalising 'normal' male behaviour. Men need to stop self victimising and stand up for women's rights to be free from harassment.
-
Spot on, I guess I joined in discussion to try & think of some solutions, defender here always have been ask those who know me!!
-
That's good! Sorry, I'm not antagonising, it's just something many women have to deal with in their daily lives while most men don't....

How is offering women only carriages "restricting choice"? Genuine question. I don't think the idea is to force women to use them?
-
If a woman chooses not to use it and then gets attacked, would that be her fault? 'Well, madam, why weren't you in the ladies' carriage?'
-
No, of course not. But it does add a restriction to men to offer a place where women can feel safe. It's far from a perfect idea but is....
-
....seeking consultation on the issue that bad? Taking the idea to a worst case scenario that was never suggested seems a touch dishonest
-
Quite. I think there's a (right-wing) culture of making bad faith arguments, that sometimes sincere people inadvertently fall for.
-
Always helpful if it can fit in to a trope too.
-
It's not dishonest though, is it. The suggestion is to offer purportedly safer segregated carriages for women, but not enforce them...
-
The logical extension of that would suggest that I'd be taking an allegedly less safe option by refusing to segregate myself from men.
