NEW:
Britain’s grim winter of strikes, falling incomes and a worsening NHS crisis is not some unfortunate series of events
It’s the inevitable result of a decade of Tory austerity that steadily weakened the state’s capacity to respond to shocks

When you’re a fantastic SEO and genuinely caring guy like Matt, you’re pretty easy to manage. Incidentally, Matt’s now freelance so you can all be his boss (10/10 would recommend)

31 - Being Present by Jeanine Turner
Some interesting (and useful) ideas about how to get people to put down their phones and listen to you. Lots of good stuff about running remote meetings too.

Chuffed to launch the second report in our #CoverageToCapital series. We looked at the impact of social and earned media on fundraising for unicorn #startups. The TLDR is, if you want to raise more money, you need to invest in your media profile📈bit.ly/Cov2Capital #PR

I've recently had a few requests for a personal finance tracker..
I've had my own in sheets for a while now, but I've now built one anyone can download 📊
It's super simple to use and has everything (I think) you'd need in a financial tracker 📈

Book 30 ✅ Traction by Gino Wickman
As Gino says, you can only have one operating system…I still prefer The Rockefeller Habits. But I liked the values scorecard in Traction, I’m stealing that.

Book 29 ✅ The PMA Effect by
One for the punk kids especially (because I appreciate that this won't be for everyone). Get the audiobook, you want John Joseph's dulcet tones in your ear. I needed my PMA this year and I needed JJ reminding me now.

Book 28 ✅ Great by Choice by Jim Collins
Loved it, obviously. Especially the use of Apple-before-Jobs'-return as a case study of what not to do. I still have to read Built to Last. Big fan of Jim's.

Book 27 ✅ Sales EQ by
I enjoyed this collision between sales training, behavioural economics and anecdotes you might see on LinkedIn. Lots of good stuff that can apply to most conversations, not just in sales.

Book 26 ✅ Hype by
If you like reading about terrible people, you'll love this. Particularly liked hearing things I remember reported as fact e.g. "Kylie Jenner is youngest self-made billionaire" weren't true at all.

Book 25 ✅ Competitive Strategy by Michael Porter
This was long. I liked the generic strategies and I now know lots about the US snowmobile industry in the 70s. Would recommend Porter's essays on HBR but maybe not this.

Book 23 ✅ Scaling Up by ()
My third time through this (not including the times I've revisited one of the chapters over and over) and it feels new every time. Especially since I've now read more of the books referenced (Jim Collins especially).

Specifically this version on Audible. Highly recommend having Littlefinger read Sun Tzu to you (Aiden Gillen if you go looking).

Book 21 ✅ How the Mighty Fall by Jim Collins
I love Jim Collins so I’m biased. But I loved this. Everything Collins writes resonates with me more than any other author. This is just another field manual (but if you’ve not read any of his work, start with Good to Great).

Book 20 ✅ Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport
You already know what’s in this book because you secretly know how bad social media is for your mental and physical health (and society). But it’s pretty actionable, I’ll report back maybe.

Book 19 ✅ Woke Inc by
I thought it was balanced and a nice companion to the stakeholder capitalism stuff in CEO Excellence. Argues that lots of Corporate America is using ESG as a smokescreen for doing what it always did (and worse).

Some recurring themes from books I’ve read this year like How to Deal with Difficult People. This is better. The personal stories from Google etc are great too 👍

Book 15 ✅ The Boutique by Greg Alexander
Very matter of fact. Sometimes that’s good, sometimes it’s bad. But I was listening to the audiobook and I bought the hardback because I wanted to refer back to it. So definitely one of my better reads so far 👍
