@steipete @uliwitness nope, it’s bullshit. They are complaining about a rule that’s been there since IAP was in introduced.

@pburford@steipete It's also a rule that's been bullshit since IAP was introduced ^_^#justMyOpinion#iDoNotSpeakForMyEmployer -
@uliwitness@steipete their shop their rules. -
@pburford@uliwitness That’s precisely why we need governments to regulate that. It’s like Windows in the 90ies with Internet Explorer. -
@steipete@uliwitness Windows had 90+% market share iOS worldwide is 20-30%. Not really a valid comparison. - View other replies

@pburford@steipete@uliwitness Apple owns 100% of the iPhone/iPad/iPod market, so it is a valid comparison IMO. Direct competition limited -
@RicPerrott@pburford@steipete Not sure that counts. That's like saying McDonald's has 100% of the McDonald's market covered. -
@uliwitness@pburford@steipete Not the same. Buy a PC, put any OS and apps you want on it. Buy iOS device, no choice. Apple controls all... - Show more

@steipete short of creating our own mobile platform (with blackjack, and hookers) I don't see what we can do about it. - View other replies

@steipete from the article, it sounds like Spotify tried to change the terms of their arrangement, not Apple, as they're implying. -
@nicklockwood True. They’re stretching things. Still somewhat root for them just because I’m not a fan of the walled garden. -
@steipete yeah, don't like Apple rejecting for competition (as opposed to quality/security) but Spotify isn't getting unfair treatment here. -
@steipete and really, it's not good UX for every app to use it's own payment system. So really what Spotify want is *special* treatment. -
@steipete Apple should be more flexible about their cut tho. It's more important apps use Pay than that they profit from every transaction. -
@steipete apps like Amazon taking payment via Pay in-app with 1% cut for Apple would be better for users, Apple, & Amazon than current hack -
@steipete (I was thinking of Kindle, rather than the Amazon store app, but I guess it applies to both to some extent) -
@nicklockwood@steipete issue isn't signing up people outside the app or the cut. simply can't use app on iOS to promote signing up outside. - View other replies

@steipete Apple needs external accountability on App Store approvals. They have too much unchecked power and, and they are inconsistent. -
@steipete it would be great if they cut this anti competitive bs out. It really sucks being on that end.
