This is going to be interesting. "We cannot stand by as Apple uses the App Store approval process as a weapon."http://www.recode.net/2016/6/30/12067578/spotify-apple-app-store-rejection …

@steipete @uliwitness nope, it’s bullshit. They are complaining about a rule that’s been there since IAP was in introduced.

@pburford @uliwitness That’s precisely why we need governments to regulate that. It’s like Windows in the 90ies with Internet Explorer.

@steipete @uliwitness Windows had 90+% market share iOS worldwide is 20-30%. Not really a valid comparison.

@pburford @steipete @uliwitness Apple owns 100% of the iPhone/iPad/iPod market, so it is a valid comparison IMO. Direct competition limited

@RicPerrott @pburford @steipete Not sure that counts. That's like saying McDonald's has 100% of the McDonald's market covered.

@uliwitness @pburford @steipete Not the same. Buy a PC, put any OS and apps you want on it. Buy iOS device, no choice. Apple controls all...

@steipete short of creating our own mobile platform (with blackjack, and hookers) I don't see what we can do about it.

@steipete from the article, it sounds like Spotify tried to change the terms of their arrangement, not Apple, as they're implying.

@nicklockwood True. They’re stretching things. Still somewhat root for them just because I’m not a fan of the walled garden.

@steipete yeah, don't like Apple rejecting for competition (as opposed to quality/security) but Spotify isn't getting unfair treatment here.

@steipete and really, it's not good UX for every app to use it's own payment system. So really what Spotify want is *special* treatment.

@steipete Apple should be more flexible about their cut tho. It's more important apps use Pay than that they profit from every transaction.

      6. Nick Lockwood ‏@nicklockwood Jul 1

@steipete apps like Amazon taking payment via Pay in-app with 1% cut for Apple would be better for users, Apple, & Amazon than current hack

@steipete (I was thinking of Kindle, rather than the Amazon store app, but I guess it applies to both to some extent)

      8. Nat Brown ‏@natbro Jul 1

@nicklockwood @steipete issue isn't signing up people outside the app or the cut. simply can't use app on iOS to promote signing up outside.

@steipete Apple needs external accountability on App Store approvals. They have too much unchecked power and, and they are inconsistent.

@steipete it would be great if they cut this anti competitive bs out. It really sucks being on that end.
