I think it's more of a source of magical dependency and it's effects than their NEED to do so. Kaldorei are the most magical trolls, and seems to have gotten on alright with Nordrassil's destruction only destroying their immortality, instead of giving them withdrawl. (1)
I need some answer about elfs and their need to use a source of energy of sort. Since we see that is common for elfs to be conected to any sort of energy to stay alive as is part of their nature i guess? Does it count the same for both Kaldorei and Quel'dorei?

Quel'dorei, however, went through a great deal of withdrawl like the Sin'dorei, the two really only seperated now based on political distinction. While the Sin'dorei WOULD go through withdrawl again if the Sunwell exploded, the Quel'dorei pretty much gritted their teeth (2)
