potentially hot take but i think the fallen forsaken banner on PTR is a nice detail looking into the tumultuous politics of the forsaken identity after sylvanas' betrayal at the mak'gora

as i've come to know it (and i can be wrong bc i'm an alliance main) the shattered mask is mostly attributed to sylvanas, and i would imagine that non-loyalist forsaken want to grow from it, to reforge their identity independent of her

i can understand the upset that forsaken players have at face value--i would be mad if the darnassus banner was on the floor without obvious reason. but my goodness the vitriol and gall in the replies of that one thread is absolutely apalling.

because the banner is associated with sylvanas though is the problem. it's like if the darnassus banner was knocked over specifically to say 'fuck you' to ysera or elune or something. blizzard making the decision to have the night elves cut ties with those entities would-

even if they were attempting to justify the night elves rejecting those characters in the lore. elune is a void lord actually and so the good guy night elves reject her unquestioningly would feel pretty bad i would think

that's the thing though, i would imagine that the symbolism of the toppled banner implies that kind of conflict of identity, that some forsaken don't want to let go of sylvanas yet (duh, loyalists) and some forsaken want to grow beyond it. --

I don't know that the current conflict of interest was ever really a thing though. the traditional conflict of interest was usually forsaken who wanted to be SUPER evil who thought sylvanas was too tame, and the sylvanas forsaken who wanted to be tastefully evil
