Slowly changing my mind on the admirability of Wikipedia not monetizing and surviving in cockroach-mode off its readers’ donations. On the one hand, it’s a beautiful example of voluntaryism. Otoh, Wikipedia’s become the Craigslist of encyclopedia: a meh product we’re stuck with.

The more a project vilifies profit, the sicker it becomes — examples include Wikipedia, Craigslist, or open source projects. Big things serve their own purposes better when they make money!
