That’s not what defunding the police means. That’s not what the word “defund” means. To defund is to stop paying for something, entirely.

Even if we were to fully defund the police (which may be the best avenue), we would replace it with alternative programs that do a better job, one of which would be a much smaller and properly trained group authorized to use force in those rare cases that need it.

Let me take a stab at guessing what some alternative programs might be... Someone who today might be arrested for breaking and entering and larceny would instead be invited to attend a county seminar on family budgeting. Shoplifting at Target? No arrest! Get a free gift card!

Low level crimes can be placed on rehabilitation programs (which are cheaper and reduce reoffending compared to prison) for example. The main idea would be to invest in the infrastructure that allows young people (all colours) to develop themselves and not rely on crime
