Back in the day, a lot of Klansmen who committed acts of terror were declared not guilty regardless of the evidence presented in court under the legal theory of “white makes right.” History didn’t repeat itself exactly, but it certainly did rhyme.
An awful lot of people mistaking laws as written for justice today. Laws are written by fallible humans. They are imperfect approximations of justice. That's why they're constantly debated, examined, and changed. You can be found "innocent" under the law and still be guilty.
