Why did the GOP make the USPS prefund 75 years of future pensions? Because they've had a bone to kill it and privatize mail delivery for their rich donors for three decades. Why won't they get rid of it now? Because they know it will kill vote-by-mail and lower turnout.

Couple other fun facts about
@USPS. 1) It's entirely self-funded, by law, and has not taken a penny of taxpayer money in a very long time. 2) It's the only government agency whose existence and continual operation is CONSTITUTIONALLY MANDATED. It is illegal for the USPS to end.Näytä tämä ketju -
Getting the feeling a lot of you didn't know about the pension thing before now...

It’s 2020 why is the USPS still running a fucking DB pension have we learned nothing??
-
Yes, we’ve learned lots. Corporations have learned they can arbitrarily steal employees’ promised benefits, and pass the profit onto shareholders abd CEOs.

The basic function of the USPS is a defined function of government. What private company would go to every single address in the country just to 'see' if there is mail to pick up? That business model is untenable for a private company.
-
You do know that the post office doesn’t do that, don’t you? There are many small towns where all the mail is in a single location, and you have to go to it rather than the post office coming to you.
