just gonna come out and say it: vulnerable people are always the most susceptible to propaganda, misinformation, and conspiracy, especially in times of cultural anxiety, and if there is a way to help them out of these traps, targeted self-righteous vilification isn’t it

Yup. Chat with my chemtrail/gov't conspiracy neighbor a lot. Good dude. I just listen, slightly challenge and try to give him better info from my experience. Gotta gain respect first before changing minds.

Those types can't be budged. They're a cult.

I agree with the sentiment of this but as long as purveyors exist, there is no way of getting through to these vulnerable people. The only way to truly help is through prevention. Teach school kids about logical fallacies, bias, researching topics....

Preventative Education is def always key! I do think you can still actively help those currently entrapped in harmful mindsets/environments by making that same education available for them to find on their own terms. Purveyors will always exist, so too should peer educators.

I'm going to be honest and say I disagree. There are certain cult-like groups (won't name them here) who are willingly ignoring any information believing it is disinfo from a mysterious "them". These people need rigorous deprogramming, and until then pose a danger.
-
I cannot believe that hugging these types who would rather see the country die of a disease than just stay home for a couple weeks is the solution. My life, and the lives of hundreds of thousands is at stake, and I cannot just go "aww" and pat these people on the head.
