    Okay, I don't know how to break this to you, Astrotweeps, but I just got an email with a book attached that the clearly demonstrates that the heliocentric model of the solar system is just wrong. The Earth is the center of the Universe after all! Better revise my notes...

    The degree to which I hate completing my current & pending and list of collaborators for grants only grows with time. That is all. It is grant season for astronomers. We are full of hate for random required documents at the moment. I have picked the cp and coa. Who’s with me?

    TIL: Urea is used as a diesel additive to cut emissions. Do people in the US do this too? Yes, Urea can come from urine. It is the end product the breakdown of proteins from many meats (and fish which IMHO are a meat).

    Galileo invented the word “moons” because “satellite” was not specific enough. Satellites were anything orbiting anything (same as today), but he specifically meant satellites that are planets orbiting planets, like Earth’s Moon is a planet orbiting a planet. 1/2

    Moons are just small planets orbiting big planets!

    Things were moving so fast during the Hangoutathon that relativity said the smaller boxes would work. Then it fell back to normal speed and everything expanded.

    If you won a gift bag during the Hangoutathon 2021, I promise you I'm not holding it hostage...I'm just more than slightly geometry-challenged. They'll be in the mail as soon as I have the correct boxes.

    I sometimes feel like Hubble has reached the point where its only answer to “How are you?” is “I’m just soooo tired.” Hubble is like that lifeform in a sci fi show that is forced to keep going beyond what’s reasonable so others can benefit. And we’re all so very very grateful.

    NASA restored Hubble’s Advanced Camera for Surveys instrument on Sunday. The team is continuing work to resolve the issue that suspended all science operations Oct. 25.
