Knowing how brave you were throughout your journey gave me the strength to go through endometriosis removal surgery: I am 15 days post-op today 💕

It’s a long road that is by no means over, but I’m grateful for this moment in time when I get to pause and reflect on how far I’ve come.

I’m privileged to have a body that carried me through these last couple of years with strength. To have a DREAM surgical team by who made this process empowering and seamless. To have friends who showed up in so many different ways to walk this path with me.

I’m especially lucky that my dad, a BRCA-carrier and current-Stage IV-prostate-cancer-warrior, was with me every step of the way. He came to my mastectomy and held my hand after surgery. He’s my whole heart.

I don’t miss the drains or the drugs. I don’t miss the bruising and the scar tape, the bleeding and swelling and incisions. But I’m grateful I went through it. I’m deeply grateful for genetic testing and the ability to be proactive about my health.

Back then, my entire world revolved around breast cancer, BRCA, and surgeries. Every conversation, friendship, morsel of food, night out, crying spell, and dream was shaped by my journey. What I was going through. I had 3 surgeries that year. 3 mountains to summit and descend.

Last week was the 2 year anniversary of my preventative double mastectomy and I…totally forgot about it. Like, completely and utterly forgot. Until today. Two years later, I can easily say this was the proudest moment of my life. 🧵

1/ It's been interesting to see the mix of responses to this story, published earlier this week, about the motivations behind human spaceflight and how the American public might think about them. But!
