There are so many reasons to be frustrated with "it's the pipeline!" arguments, and one of them is that "so this is a retention problem, and we can apply tactics to improve retention?" isn't ever the apparent rejoinder.

It was til now a private moment, but I felt so proud seeing our grantees who are black men cluster around our distinguished speaker @__aston__ to ask him questions after he spoke. When you talk about diversity, how often are these the people in your mind?
