My basic expectation would have been that you'd have had hardcore enthusiasts, seen one here and there from time to time, laughed, and then been overtaken — but as far as I'm concerned there really weren't *any* to speak of previously. Huh!

So — perhaps electric scooters are really that unhelpful to have on their own, and it's a huge experience dealbreaker if you must to take your scooter along indoors with you?

Or maybe scooters are better modeled as an on-demand, electric single-occupancy "bus" — one that magically has a stop a few blocks away from wherever you happen to be, and goes express direct to your destination every time.

I disagree? They’ve been on the embarcadero along my run every morning for years now, with the boosted boards and such.
-
I am not counting boosted boards; only scooters in scooter form-factor.

Totally. There's been a ton of *scooters* on the embarcadero along my run route every morning. :)
-
I was counting them for a while about a year ago, and it was the same number as the boosted boards.

Both of these things can be true. I think you're more likely to see individually owned scooters on a morning commute route (embr) and rental scooters for shorter trips within the city.
