WSDOT data (for example) opposes this view: https://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Safety/roundabouts/benefits.htm … And personally as a pedestrian and a cyclist [primarily], all the most terrifying intersections I can think of in my city are four-way stops. Roundabouts are far more tractable IME.
