Back home in Hawai’i people debate the relative merits of mapping apps not on the speed of the routes but on the comically bad mispronunciations of street names. “At least this one is not as bad as the other one, which says I live on *garble* street”

But Google got a lot better since I was here. I wonder how they did it. Did google pay someone to just correct them? Do they have some automatic technique?

I would believe it if humandraulics were involved.

However the pronunciations are still atrocious to the extent that I find them unusable for correlating signs to spoken instructions; none of the voices have been taught to breathe which doesn’t work w a glottal stop; furthermore the use of cardinal directions remains uncanny
