People trust mapping apps a lot for good reasons but some who don’t know better now argue that the awful computer pronunciations HAVE to be the canonically correct pronunciation (“that’s how *app producer* says it”) and it’s almost unbearable.
Google gets piled on here a bit because it’s currently the least-bad so is used more prevalently. Tbc they all seem I have some work to do
I love when Google Maps navigation switches between different voices and pronunciations for no apparent reason
My screen reader switches to German for text in all caps and I can’t help but feel it’s a bit of snarky mockery on its part (while I recognize it *may* not have been intentional by the software authors)

Describe the issue
Travelling in Germany with English twitter app. To me it looked like a string that wasn't localized because the name of this law is in German. Had to slowly transcribe it in Google to figure out what it meant
The stakes are higher when one wrong move sends you and your carload of relatives screaming into hot bubbling lava!
Apple maps usual "Siri" female voice pronounces "El Camino Real" correctly. their male British voice gets it wrong. Sounds funny but not hilarious.
