Imagine explaining Twitter to someone in the 90s: “so, it’s like an open mic event that never ends,“

-
“Yes it’s kind of like sending each other short faxes. It is free, somehow, yes.”

“In about a decade you’ll start using SMS and everything will start -and cease- to make sense. Yep exactly you got it.”

I kinda wish more of the open mic events I went to in the 90s had character constraints. So. Much. Bad. Spoken. Word.
-
Relatedly, someone recently referred to voicemails as “spoken word text messages” and I still haven’t stopped laughing
-
I would listen to way more (any) voicemail if it was always delivered like spoken word.
-
Calling you now
-
"You. Are calling..... you are calling Me"

Now I’m imagining a twitter client that behaves like its literally MCing an open mic. Just popping out little bits of transition chatter and introductions and reminders to please smoke AWAY from the door, and then here’s another tweet thread.
