Can we talk about Star Wars yet

The whole thing was actually too long and I think it's because Rian Jackson wanted to make as much Star Wars as possible while he had the chance AND ALSO wanted to remake To Catch a Thief at the same time. Too much.

Star Wars IS consistently gold in my world for text threads arguing about leadership and management decisionmaking and I enjoyed this year's version of those.

There was an effect in the extended universe books where because serial books were written by different authors, one author would set up characters and backstories and then the next would get rid of them all to do their own thing.. Star Wars now has that quality in its movies

Also an alternate version where the craven head sithlord was female and also Holdo was instead maybe more of an Ackbar would have been interesting. The head sithlord archetype seems too exaggerated and rigid.

I love this movie but I agree with this particular point, I just wanted Poe off the screen as quickly as possible and didn't feel like the lesson-learning made up for out. OTOH, as a young boy I learned a lot from these heavy handed plot lines in other movies/tv
-
Did Poe's arc seem like it had a clear takeaway lesson? (ie what would young Darius perhaps have learned from him?)
-
To me it was a very transparent "hot shot boy learns that there are better/other ways to lead than being a glory hog" and also a "don't judge a book by its cover" lesson re: general Laura Dern
-
tbh while she was able to come through personally at the end I would have loved to see her act like she had been trained in leadership since she was 17 per her backstory.
-
Yeah it was messy. The fact that she kept her plan secret from everyone made
@q0rtz note that she was actually being a very bad manager and probably deserved a mutiny! -
Jumping in to add that insulting people when they’re doing stuff you don’t like is Shitty Management 101 and the whole tone of “uuuugh this mean bitch—oh I guess the Mean Bitch was right” still makes me mad I would like a third option between Bullying Men and Insulting Women

I had the same reaction to him. Like his whole character has been played out & we no longer need to put up w/ folks like that.
-
I somewhat liked Poe in a generic way before, I never want to see him again now
-
Extremely same & I was, at best, neutral towards him going in.

I once heard a test for a good character: can you describe who they are, apart from what they do? The prequels tended to fail this test, these new movies are hit and miss - Leia: idealistic, sharp-tongued, thoughtful, lonely - Poe Dameron: ...pilot? A cocky one?
