This makes me wish someone would start an artisanal custom-manufacturing setup for all of those tourist keychain and mug things. How hard could it be..

Custom, on-the-spot name-keychain making exists! Interesting question: why hasn’t it replaced the racks of readymade stuff?

Fixed costs versus variable costs? And economies of scale derived from using centralized production?

Also the places that sell those tend to be kitschy tourist shops full of cheap crap that don’t actually care about us name weirdos :(

If name-branded stuff were their primary thing, yes. But those stores have plenty of generic stuff too that is probably majority of sales.

I feel like it’s an “if it ain’t broke…” situation.

The funny thing is I hardly know anyone w/ a conventional name that owns that stuff. Just us weirdos that feel left out that want it.
