Good for you and her! My wife and I have very different ethnic backgrounds, and we and our children never check those boxes. Sometimes we print "American."

This obsession with ethnicity on forms in the USA always puzzled me. Why do they need to know? I have literally never filled out a form here in NL that asked anything about ethnicity.
