Feels like a lot of online activity is migrating to private groups. Just me? And is it because groups are rising or public commons less fun?

Til recently you were online for a reason. I've met people in cafés, but never had to leave one because 3 billion people suddenly walked in.

What holds groups together better than shared goals? What breaks them apart? I propose that our reasons for gathering have diffused.

Maybe those "find your tribe / friends" apps that people have been trying to build for years finally have a purpose

virtually conceived ? more importantly is the question of privacy-but the distinction between private and public is blurred when the NSA participates and shapes discussion anonymously-does that make it a public 1st amdmnt territory-private FB pages on public policy also blurry
