I only moved here in 2007 but, really, I think no matter when I moved, SF would never have been like that for me.
2007 was when I first visited SF too (summer internship) - why would SF have never been like that for you?

Cause I moved here because I love tech. ^_^ If the tech capital had been elsewhere, I would have moved there instead. (BM is a plus tho!)

My family are artists but my trade is technical. I moved to SF because you could do & be whatever you wanted. I think this was impt for tech

My family were farmers, so I had no real insight into the art community. That might have changed my view of SF significantly.

TBH I mostly just peered in through open doors, went around with friends or to parties. It was just there and now it's not.
