Thinking about disaster preparedness. There are a million lists — I've rarely seen one include a simple car battery & inverter for power.

Do these lists all assume ownership of a car? If you're meant to store water— why not also put a lead-acid car battery on a trickle charger?

I am also completely confident that I don't want to charge my phone/power lights by cranking anything if at all avoidable

Presumably those belong to the owners of the vehicles? What is this, some kind of sole-survivor scenario?

I've actually seen survivor/prepper websites which are centered on guns as the first thing you need. They're serious. So nobody can steal your canned tuna. So some comic extrapolated that all you need for survival is a gun; then you can take everything else you need.
