Thinking about disaster preparedness. There are a million lists — I've rarely seen one include a simple car battery & inverter for power.

Amateur astronomers often run telescope gear off them over the night but that battery type even kind of sucks for that despite popularity

Deep cycle marine batteries handle those sort of slow draw repeated discharge cycles better. Better longevity, avoid plate sulfination, etc.

Another clumsy thing about the branded & packages car starter type batteries for astro use is dumb high resistance connectors.

Yeah I think deep cycle is obviously a requirement for this case. You can get deep cycle car batteries - my intention to imply that

Don't see need for marine. No clearly better chemistry than lead acid it seems.
