Markets are responding accordingly but demand does not necessarily drive supply (in time) —pic.twitter.com/H9BKrWJom1
That's it. Just some thoughts next time you see a flight delay or cancellation. This is wild.
Oh, and an epilogue, because I get into learning statistics like this — around under 5% of pilots are womenhttps://www.womenofaviationweek.org/five-decades-of-women-pilots-in-the-united-states-how-did-we-do/ …
The first ever flight by a crew of all black women didn't happen until very recently — 2009! (it's a cool story)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3EuN_TbXmM …
Anecdotally - some ways to build time (fly cancelled checks) are going away. & the new ATP reqs mean almost no one'll do it on their own.
In yesterday's mail - I get one of these a month probably. They really need more pilots.pic.twitter.com/KEYX0KNZ3K
I’m confused - that salary is not that big where is the unmet demand?
When you say "not that big" what are you comparing to?
Average new college graduate salary is something like $61k. An industry paying $10k over that does not seem out of normal bounds
Especially when you figure it’s a stem-ish field and requires time away from home and bad hours - $70k seems like they aren’t even trying
aha the mistake is thinking of it as a "stem-ish" field. you'll want to look at some numbers for entry-level commercial pilots..
just because entry level pilots used to make peanuts does not mean there is a shortage now does it?
If only the salaries on regionals increased to March this, we probably wouldn't have a shortage
*match. In a cab and it's getting bumpy and Twitter still doesn't have an edit button :/
Regional salaries and bonuses are already rapidly climbing (see subsequent tweet)
Yeah but the increased hours mean you're making the lower salary longer. It's not such an attractive proposition.
