I think it may be a thing especially for folks who learned to type on typewriters (as I did originally thanks to my old school writer dad)

Maybe. I've no idea at all where I picked up the habit! I learned to type mostly on a Commodore 64, but probably not so much text.

Hmm. You're right though, my early text entry was, I think(?), on a typewriter. I'm not actually sure...
