From zero forward airspeed you can turn 180° on a dime and start 40mph in the other direction, flying as though like a dragonfly.

I was taking an intro lesson. No whirly license yet but gyro is a PPL addon!

The controls are familiar to an airplane, throttle & rudder — only cyclic instead of aileron/elevator

That's the thing, you are *always* already autorotating a gyrocopter - the difference between a gyro and a heli is no motor on the rotor.
