as a grumpy old person update, i still hate slack. give me irc any day of the week. forever. :)
Genuine question: how are they meaningfully different? (Assuming the problem isn't just that Slack is close enough to warrant comparison?)

the threading interface drives me bonkers, the side thread thing. the key commands aren't great. it auto scrolls by default, hard to stop.
-
with the desktop version, having multiple windows doesn't seem easy for the same group (are they called groups? servers in irc parlance)
-
default of emailing you every 15 minutes when you have new messages is ridonculous
-
the quick switcher way of getting around channels is counterintuitive
-
the ability to "react" to an entry is semi useless, because if you use that to bookmark stuff, hard to find again.
-
status message hard to set without an emoji. the pinned items are wonky and weird to edit, even in the desktop client.

oh and it's not encrypted even though it could be. and you can't self-host.

currently all of this is hyper magnified because i'm using it with a couple hundred other people to map rescue requests. very high traffic.
